David J. Ferry, Jr. // President
Mr. Ferry was born in Philadelphia, PA and is a founding director of the firm. Mr. Ferry has regularly been named as one of the top 100 lawyers in Delaware in Delaware Today Magazine, most recently featured in their “Top Lawyers” issue in November 2021. He has also been recognized as a “Delaware Super Lawyer” in the area of Estate and Trust Litigation in the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Magazine, and served as the President of the Delaware State Bar Association from July 2018 through June 2019.

Michael B. Joseph served as Chapter 13 Trustee for the District of Delaware from 1987 until April 2022. He has also served as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee (appointed in 1981) and a Chapter 12 Case Trustee. He is a founding director of FJ. Mr. Joseph received his B.A. from Rutgers University (1972) and his J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School (1975). He is admitted to practice in Delaware (1976), New Jersey (1977), United States District Court for the District of Delaware (1977) and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals (1990).

Jaevan C. Owens “Jay” was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to law school Jay attended A.I. DuPont High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware. Jay graduated cum laude from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2020. During law school, Jay served as the Bluebook Editor of the Widener Law Review and was employed as a paralegal at the Delaware Department of Justice. After law school, Jay served as a Judicial Law Clerk to Judge Natalie J. Haskins and Judge Felice G. Kerr of Delaware Family Court.

Mr. Ferry was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He attended Salesianum School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Delaware in 2006. While attending Widener Law School, he worked as a legal assistant for Ferry Joseph, P.A. in addition to serving as a legal intern for the Honorable Joseph R. Slights, III in the Delaware Superior Court. Upon graduation from Widener Law School in 2012, he was admitted to the Delaware Bar on December 12, 2012. Mr. Ferry primarily practices in the areas of elder law, guardianship (including contested matters), estate planning (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives), and estate administration and probate.

Mr. Ferry was born in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Salesianum School. He received a Bachelor's Degree from University of Delaware and graduated cum laude from Delaware Law School in 2012. During his time in law school, Brian served as an Articles Editor for the Widener Law Review and was recognized as a Widener Merit Scholar. Brian focuses his legal practice on estate, guardianship, power of attorney, will, and trust matters. He also handles matters involving contract law, elder law, real estate law, and corporate law.

Mr. Riggs was born in Norfolk, VA. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in biology from the University of Delaware, and later graduated with honor from the University of Maryland School of Law. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Riggs worked as a risk analyst for MBNA. Mr. Riggs focuses his practice on probate and trust litigation, guardianship matters, insurance defense, and general litigation. He has represented individuals, businesses, personal representatives, guardians, and trustees in all Delaware courts, and has served as independent trustee for several Delaware dynasty trusts. Mr. Riggs is a certified mediator for the Superior Court of Delaware, New Castle County.

Mr. Akers was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. After attending St. Elizabeth High School, he received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware and graduated cum laude from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2019. He was a staff member of the Delaware Journal of Corporate and the Vice President of Interscholastic Competitions for the Moot Court Honor Society for which he also competed in five oral advocacy competitions and was inducted into the Order of Barristers.

In addition to his undergraduate degree, Mr. Ferry also has a Master of Instruction from the University of Delaware and a Juris Doctorate degree from Delaware Law School.

Mr. Kafader was born in Wilmington, Delaware. After law school he served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Delaware from 1977-1985. Mr. Kafader was director of the State’s civil litigation unit while at the Delaware Department of Justice. Civil litigation has been the mainstay of Mr. Kafader’s private practice as well.

Mr. Miller was born in Easton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Miller’s collegiate honors include Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. Mr. Miller was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and Theta Chi Fraternity. Before law school, Mr. Miller served on active duty for four years as an infantry officer in the United States Army. He deployed in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the 24th Infantry Division. In law school, he was on the staff of the Delaware Journal of Corporate law and a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. He also held a Wolcott Fellowship with Justice Carolyn Berger of the Supreme Court of Delaware. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Miller was Law Clerk to Judge Susan C. Del Pesco of the Superior Court of the State of Delaware. Mr. Miller is also an adjunct professor at Villanova University’s College of Professional Studies.
